<p style="line-height: 2em;">長江航道局成立于1957年，是隸屬于交通運(yùn)輸部的正廳級公益性事業(yè)單位，主要負(fù)責(zé)長江干線宜賓合江門至長江入海口全長2754公里主航道規(guī)劃、建設(shè)、運(yùn)行、維護(hù)等工作。同時(shí)還維護(hù)著副航道、支流河口航道、海輪航道、專用航道約1893公里，維護(hù)總里程約4647公里，共設(shè)各類助航標(biāo)志7200余座。</p>

<p style="line-height: 2em;">2016年，交通運(yùn)輸部實(shí)施深化長江航運(yùn)管理體制改革，長江干線航道實(shí)現(xiàn)了集中統(tǒng)一管理。目前，長江航道局在長江沿線六省二市設(shè)有宜賓、瀘州、重慶、宜昌、武漢、南京6個(gè)區(qū)域航道局，涪陵、萬州、荊州、岳陽、九江、蕪湖、鎮(zhèn)江、上海8個(gè)正處級航道處和73個(gè)科級航道處，以及長江航道規(guī)劃設(shè)計(jì)研究院、長江航道測量中心、長江航道整治中心、長江航道局檔案中心、長江航道局離退休職工服務(wù)中心、長江航道局機(jī)關(guān)事務(wù)服務(wù)中心6個(gè)支持保障單位。同時(shí)，負(fù)責(zé)管理長江口航道管理局和長江航道工程局有限責(zé)任公司?！?lt;/p>

<p style="line-height: 2em;">長江航道局轄區(qū)河段全部創(chuàng)建為省部級文明樣板航道，其中5個(gè)航區(qū)1123公里航道創(chuàng)建為全國文明樣板航道。局本部被授予“全國五一勞動(dòng)獎(jiǎng)狀”，5家局屬單位獲全國文明單位稱號，25家局屬單位獲省部級文明單位稱號。</p>
